Studying abroad is a unique adventure, offering a one-of-a-kind experience. While this journey fosters tremendous personal and academic growth, it also presents various challenges. Finding a comfortable, safe place to live is crucial to making the most out of your time in Budapest! Here are some of our top tips to help you find the perfect place to stay during your time at Corvinus University in Budapest!

There are generally three options available to you:

1. University dormitories

Corvinus University has its own dormitories, which are especially popular among international students. Most of the dormitories are near the university, which makes access to the university extremely convenient. Our dormitories are very affordable, making them a popular option for first year students. University dormitories are the best place to make new friends!

Tarkaréti is the biggest Corvinus dormitory, located 45 minutes from the main campus. It provides rooms for 400 students and has all of the essential facilities like internet, kitchens, and laundry. The site includes a gym and sports field, as well as a library and study rooms, which are popular during the exam period. With many social events, it is a perfect place to meet new people and enjoy university life!

Kinizsi dormitory has an especially good location, just a few minutes away from the Corvinus main campus. The dormitory has essential facilities and the majority of the rooms have been recently renovated. With its social spaces located in the basement, Kinizsi dormitory is a great choice for anyone looking to enjoy an active and vibrant social university life!

Gellert dormitory is located in our new, state-of-the-art Gellert campus on the Buda side of the city, approximately a 15-minute walk from the main campus. The campus opened in the spring semester, 2024 and features an absolutely stunning modern infrastructure! The dormitory offers air-conditioned rooms with private bathrooms and a city view, along with essential appliances and facilities. More sporting infrastructure is planned for the future!

The application for Corvinus dormitories typically opens in July. Follow the “For Freshmen” page of our website and keep an eye out for emails for the summer for information on how to apply!

2. Private dormitories

Another very popular choice for Corvinus students is private dormitories. These dorms often offer even more modern facilities, greater flexibility in room options (including single rooms), and residents from a variety of universities, adding to the diversity of the community. Typically, the cost of a room in a private dormitory is higher than in a university dormitory. However, some students still find this a better option because of its usually higher standard of living and greater independence, compared to staying in university dormitories.
Corvinus has partnered with Belvárosi Apartment House, one of the private dormitories, offering discounts to its students. The dormitory is conveniently located and well-equipped, you can check more details in their brochure and our guide.

3. Renting a room/apartment

There is always an option to rent a room in a shared apartment or the entire flat itself. Renting a room is often preferred as it is typically cheaper than renting the entire apartment. Generally speaking, renting a room or a flat is often chosen by people who prioritize their privacy and comfort, and simply want to have their own separate space. Don’t forget, that sharing an apartment with other students, often international, offers the opportunity to make friends and enjoy a sociable living arrangement.
